King County Executive Dow Constantine announced the countywide effort Monday, calling on leaders from the labor, health care, education and other industries to lead outreach efforts.
The county estimates 180,000 people will be eligible for subsidized insurance or Medicaid starting in 2014.
Enrollment in the state’s health care exchange – the online insurance marketplace mandated by the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) – will start Oct. 1.
The educational project will be led by Tom Gibbon, manager of the Community Specialty Clinic at Swedish Medical Center; Maud Daudon, president and CEO of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and Gordon McHenry, Jr., executive director of nonprofit Solid Ground.
The county will focus on finding ways to reach people interested in enrolling for coverage, and will help hospitals and health clinics connect with patients to tell them about participating in the exchange.
